Why I Built a Business Rooted in Culture

Why I Built a Business Rooted in Culture

Hey Jefa,

These past few months I’ve been deep in reflection. From getting realigned, re-grounded, and reclaiming my energy. I recently lost my Nana in early February and was with her during her end of life. I was blessed to have her all of my life and tell her thank you for being a light in my life and helping shape the woman I am today.

During my extended 6 weeks off, I gave myself space for limpias. I didn’t just clear my spirit, I also cleared my home and mind. I focused on aligned growth, and no, not hustle culture or that “girlboss” kind of growth. I’m talking about growth that honors my values, my ancestors, and my mission. The kind that feels like home. So today, I want to share something that lives close to my corazón, my porque. Mi why!

I built my business rooted in MY culture. A First-Gen Chicana who always felt like she did not belong with the crowd with family, school and career. I choose to lead with passion and love for my industry. Pero, don’t get it twisted because I still hold my boundaries! And I am proud to say this one-Jefa show doesn’t follow the rules; she redefines them.

  1. No Corporate fluff here, just cultura: After 16+ years in the game, I’ve seen it all. The good, the bad, the beautiful… and the exploitative. But what’s always stayed true for me? Respect. Kindness. Clear communication. Those aren’t “extras” they’re my non-negotiables. It’s how my mami and my tía-mamá raised me. They taught me to lead with love, pero tambien to never be a pendeja. And that’s exactly how I run my business. Whether my clients are first-gen Latine entrepreneurs or multi-generational jefas, I make sure they feel heard, educated, and empowered; before they ever sign anything. Because let’s be real, there are people out there who sell, pero don’t review the pros and cons. Boundaries Are Sacred here. Period. I love my clients like familia, always. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have boundaries. I have seen what it’s like to overgive. To say yes and stay quiet. I have even lived it myself! But I promised myself that version of me to be left in the past. Pero, flash forward to now, 5 years as my own boss; I’ve learned the power of saying no and the beauty of rest. It’s how I protect my peace. And it’s how I protect my clients’ success. Because when I’m good, we’re all good. Boundaries aren’t barriers, they’re protection. And honoring my energy? That’s the real flex.
  2. I don’t water myself down anymore. I show up my authentic self. Broken Spanish, dressed for who I am and not what others classify as “business attire”. I show up full, unapologetically. And if you’ve ever felt like you had to code-switch just to be taken seriously? I see you. You’re not alone. You don’t have to play that game anymore.

Listen, I built my agency as a love letter to mi gente. To my first-gen hermanos & hermanas navigating through all this for the first time. To the tías building side hustles from their kitchens,  To the boss Latinas who know they deserve more, but are tired of being underestimated.

We’re building differently! With transparency, education, joy and with roots that run deep.
